The Festival theme, “In Sync”, explores the relevance of classical music in today’s day and age, and serves as a connecting bridge between diverse communities and generations.

JOHOR BAHRU –  The Johor Bahru Classical Music Festival is coming back for a third year, as it runs from the 27th to 29th July 2017. The festival features 4 main concerts, as well as 6 masterclasses and workshops by a talented string of local and international top-class orchestras and performers. This year’s programmes will be hosted at the brand-new Amari Johor Bahru, with the festival finale taking place at Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios.

Presented by Johor Bahru: International Festival City (JB:IFC) and more than 20 supporting partners, this year’s festival explores the synchronisation of influences, styles and ideas – illustrating music at its most universal. From analysing the epic soundtrack of Star Wars to experiencing heartfelt love songs composed by a King, the line-up this time around brings a unique perspective and flavour from Malaysia, alongside international participation from Thailand, Spain, France and Japan. The interactive and engaging programme will also serve as invaluable input to, and exposure for, young aspiring classical musicians to come.

“The Classical Music Festival 2017 aims to excite musical interest and to emphasise the transcendence and relevance of classical music – that it isn’t just for the learned or generations before us, but it is an avenue for storytelling for all. The Festival is also a precious learning and networking opportunity for aspiring musicians to exchange views and opinions with high-calibre musicians as well as to develop a deeper passion and understanding of classical music and how relevant it is to the stories of our times,” said Jonathan Oh, Festival Curator of the JB Classical Music Festival.

The Classical Music Festival 2017 is supported by our Premier Partner, UEM Sunrise. Strategic and supporting partners of the festival include Think City, Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM) and Yayasan Sime Darby. We are also honoured to have Amari Johor Bahru as the official venue and accommodation partner.

Concert highlights, masterclasses and special events will be revealed shortly.
