JB:IFC Event Picks of the Month: May

May 12, 2017

I don't know about you but isn't the month of May a little of an awkward month? It sits in the middle of the year, neither there nor here, parallel to the weather situation in JB. We feel ya, mi amigos!

Here are a few of our event picks for the month to keep your inspiration and motivation alive!

1. Secret Film Screening @ Eightysix

Shhhh...this is for the dreamers, risk-takers and go-getters of the city, looking for a communal and immersive cinema experience. Bring your own mat, grab a drink, and watch a film under the stars with your mates! The only surprise is the film you'll be watching!

RSVP to be in on the secret and a tip will be sent to your inbox - https://goo.gl/forms/3VuHXtIXfYNBRXD22

25th May, Thursday

8.30pm

2. Urbanscapes! (duh...)

We are really diggin' Urbanscapes this year. Stretched across 3 weeks, some of us are taking turns in roadtrippin up to KL to experience a piece of what Urbanscapes can offer. Here are our Urbanscapes picks:

Immersio by Paras Bunyi, Filamen & Berkhayal di Kuala Lumpur - the mixed media exhibition you do not want to miss!

Clean Bandit Live in Malaysia - even if you only know the words to 'Rather Be'

Cigarettes After Sex  - supported by our very own dreampop duo Juno & Hanna, need I say more?

5th-21st May

2, Hang Kasturi / KL LIVE

3. Artistry Jam

Organised by Paperwalls, Artistry Jam is back for another edition! Sign up and express yourself with paints and colours for 3 hours with your mates. As they say, there is no right or wrong in art, so relax and let your imagination run wild!

20 & 21 May, Saturday and Sunday

2-5pm

7-10pm

 4. Classmates 10th Year Anniversary

Our homegrown pop-punk outfit, Classmates turns 10 this year and they'll be hosting an anniversary gig on the 14th May! Pop by after school's out and join Classmates and fellow local opening acts in this one celebration of 10-years worth of music.

14th May, 4pm onwards

The Rockin Jamz Hall, Sierra Perdana, Masai

5. Panggung Punggok: Jagat

Being awarded Best Malaysian Film at the 28th Malaysia Film Awards, Jagat is definitely a must-watch! This story depicts the relationship between a mischievous teenage boy named Appoy and his drug-addict family members.

20th May, Saturday

8.30pm

6. Piano Campur: Piano 4-hands Concert by Tham 2 Goh

Classical music and food? That is the weirdest combination yet, since nasi lemak cheesecake! For one night only, experience musical interpretations of nasi lemak nasi campur, char kuey teow and roti canai all in one serving!

21st May, 2pm

Huzza Music, Taman Mount Austin

ACROSS THE BORDER

1. Made in Japan with Dodgy Yamamoto & Shigeki

It is written on the event page that "Dodgy Yamamoto on the controls means the deepest, filthiest house grooves: techy, tribal rhythms with electronic sub-plots, dashes of dub, hints of jazz and splashes of old-school, all dished up to melt the dance floor." Need I say more?

19th May, 10pm

kyo, Singapore

2. AIR - Live in Singapore

For one night only, French electronic-pop duo, AIR comes to this part of the world to bring to you their spell-binding tracks. This is the act to catch, if you enjoyed PREP last week ;)

27th May, 8.30pm

Esplanade Theatre
